Get to know Dan Chiras of the Evergreen Institute.
What are you going to speak about at the MOTHER EARTH NEWS FAIR?
My keynote, The Monkey Trap: Can the Human Race Survive the Human Race?, will be on the MOTHER EARTH NEWS stage. I’ll also be speaking about passive solar heating and cooling, small wind energy systems and solar electricity basics.
What are you most looking forward to sharing with FAIR attendees?
A good solid, technical, but highly understandable look at solar electricity and small wind.
Tell us about your background with your particular topic.
I’ve been involved in renewable energy since the 1970s. I’ve installed solar and wind systems and teach workshops at The Evergreen Institute on these topics. I’ve also written quite a few books on solar and wind energy.
Why should fairgoers attend your presentation?
Come for fun and interesting information. You won’t be sorry. The workshops are packed full of good, valuable information presented in a way that is clear as can be.
What are you most looking forward to at the FAIR?
What I like most about this kind of event is the people, the camaraderie, just being around people who really care about the future of the planet, its people, its ecosystems, and the millions of species that share this lovely planet with us. I always leave energized and encouraged.
What advice do you have for attendees?
I usually focus on a track when I attend a fair. For example, I’ll go to every talk on one subject like solar energy or green building so I feel as if I’ve gleaned as much in depth knowledge as I can.
If you were stranded on a deserted island and could have only one thing, what would you choose?
I’d really rather have my partner Linda, but if I can only have one thing, I thinking it would be a Swiss Army knife.
Thanks, Dan. We’ll see you at the FAIR!
