On April 22, we celebrate our Mother Earth.

But we also celebrate what many consider the birth of the environmental movement. A massive rally on this day in 1970 brought 20 million Americans together to fight industry pollution, toxic dumping, pesticides and the countless mindless acts negatively impacting our environment. Today we call this event Earth Day.

The original event spawned the Environmental Protection Agency as well as the Clean Air, Clean Water and Endangered Species acts. Earth Day continues to inspire people to make a change to better our planet.

This Earth Day check out PBS’s Earth Day programming on Sunday, April 21 and Sunday, April 28. Listed below are the featured informational and inspiring documentaries focused on current environmental and social issues we face today.
