Where Have all the Trees Gone?

Americans consume more than twice the wood and paper that Europeans use, according to United Nations statistics. Since 1970, the average U.S. family size has decreased by 16 percent, while the average new home size has grown by 48 percent, says Douglas W. MacCleery, a U.S. Forest Service senior analyst.
