There are few things bigger than the sky in spring, which is why this Blue Slate Turkey wins Photo of the Week!
Our photographer caught this turkey resting on a beautiful spring day in southwest Mississippi. The Blue Slate Turkey gets its name from its color, which ranges from solid to ashy blue. There are two genetic mutations that produce this color, one dominant and one recessive, which may make it difficult to classify one turkey from another. There are quite a few turkey breeds out there, ranging from the Heritage Turkey to the Midget White Turkey. To gobble up more information on turkeys, visit the American Livestock Breeds Conservancy website.
Thanks to CU photographer lisalaforest for contributing the larger-than-life photo. Visit the On The Farm gallery for more poultry favorites.
And don’t forget to submit your photos to the CU photo-sharing site for a chance to win Photo of the Week! Each week the winner is taken from that week’s submissions. You could also be featured in the magazine sometime.
Remember to fill out the captions and give your gallery a name all its own. The more we know about an image, the more we can take from it. I know I enjoy reading about the different animals, especially when they all have fun names.
