There are few things bigger than the sky in spring, which is why this Blue Slate Turkey wins Photo of the Week!

Our photographer caught this turkey resting on a beautiful spring day in southwest Mississippi. The Blue Slate Turkey gets its name from its color, which ranges from solid to ashy blue. There are two genetic mutations that produce this color, one dominant and one recessive, which may make it difficult to classify one turkey from another. There are quite a few turkey breeds out there, ranging from the Heritage Turkey to the Midget White Turkey. To gobble up more information on turkeys, visit the American Livestock Breeds Conservancy website.
