“Plan B 4.0” outlines ways we can support healthy soils, forests, rangelands and oceanic fisheries, as well as ways to conserve the Earth’s biological diversity.

Plan B: Mobilizing to Save Civilization is a 90-minute PBS documentary based on the book by environmental visionary and MOTHER EARTH NEWS contributing editor Lester Brown. Narrated by actor and activist Matt Damon and produced by Emmy Award-winning filmmakers Marilyn and Hal Weiner, Plan B is the 12th episode of the PBS series Journey to Planet Earth.

What makes this program significant and timely is that it provides audiences with hopeful solutions?—?a road map to help us eradicate poverty and stabilize population and climate. It outlines ways to support healthy soils, forests, rangelands and oceanic fisheries, as well as ways to conserve the Earth’s biological diversity. It also reports on case studies that show signs of a developing renewable energy economy.

Featuring some of the world’s most original and influential thinkers, the program’s message is clear and unflinching: Either confront the realities of global warming or suffer the consequences of lost civilizations and failed states. Ultimately Plan B provides audiences with an optimistic vision for a new economy based on renewable resources and realistic strategies.

Appearing with Brown (who was named one of the Top 100 Global Thinkers of 2010 by Foreign Policy magazine) are Nobel Laureate Paul Krugman, Pulitzer Prize winner Thomas Friedman, and more. The documentary premieres Wednesday, March 30 at 10 p.m. EST (check your local listings).
