Lately, I’ve been thinking about what’s left on my decorating wish list–curtains for my office, a duvet cover and throw pillows for my bed, a table runner, and more. All those items would add color and personality to the rooms in my house–but they’d also put a serious drain on my budget.
That’s why I’ve decided it’s time to start sewing. Armed with my mom’s old sewing machine and the few fuzzy basics floating in my head from some junior high sewing projects, I’m on a mission to make the following items in the coming months.

You can too, thanks to the links included here.
Table Runner–like this fabulous one from blogger Betz White.
Napkins–I’ll start with the basic napkins from this Curbly tutorial, then maybe I’ll move on to this fancier set from The Purl Bee.
Curtains–I’m thinking West Coast Crafty’s vintage button curtains made from tea towels would be perfect in my office.
Curtains add personality and privacy to your home–and are a cinch to make with a sewing machine and the right fabric. Photo By madame.furie/Courtesy Flickr.
Throw Pillows–for the bed, the couch, or anywhere, these basic eHow instructions do the trick
Throw pillows add color and comfort to living spaces and bedrooms and are a relatively easy sewing project. Photo by !!blue/Courtesy Flickr.
Duvet cover–I’ve given up finding the perfect one for our bed, so I’ve decided to make my own thanks to these great Apartment Therapy instructions.
Chair Cushions–with this Do It Yourself pattern, I’ll spice up my dining room in no time
When it comes to supplies, I suggest heading to secondhand stores and flea markets. They’re great sources for fabric, scraps, and other staples–not to mention patterns for everything from curtains to coats. Or look for great organic fabrics, like Harmony Art Organic Fabrics that my fellow Natural Home blogger Victoria Klein discovered.
