Get ready for the 5th Annual Alternative Building Materials & Design Expo, the largest and most cohesive green building Expo in Southern California that brings together the general public and members of the building community to promote green building, alternative energy and sustainability practices. AltBuild begins in a new location this year in the Santa Monica Civic Auditorium on April 25 and 26.
The free two-day event on April 25 and 26 will feature more than 150 exhibits of green-material manufacturers, landscape and water conservation products, utility companies and interior design products and furnishings. The special presentation this year focuses on the Green Cities California movement taking place in 10 cities across California, representing more than 8 million residents. These cities joined forces in October 2007 to address the urgency of environmental and social issues by cooperatively taking action at a local, regional, national and international level to achieve sustainability.
“With over 8,000 attendees from across California and even internationally, last year was a resounding success for the AltBuild Expo,” said Brenden McEneaney, Green Building Program Advisor for the City of Santa Monica. “We are excited to present AltBuild 2008 at its new location at the Santa Monica Civic Center, where attendees can see the latest in sustainable technologies and learn from renowned experts in the field just steps away from some of the green gems of the region, such as the Civic Center Parking Structure, the Rand Corporation building, and the Public Safety Facility.”
To end the weekend exhibition, Santa Monica is hosting a free, self-guided Green Building Tour, which will feature sustainable homes, offices and gardens in the area to explore as you please. For seminar schedules and general information, access the Altbuild website.
