The birds like to bite the tips off of my nice, tender, young sugar pea plants. I have tried a plastic owl and CDs on strings, all to no avail.
I stopped by the local hardware store, and a clerk gave me two pieces of old metal screening from doors that had been re-screened. I draped the screening over the chicken wire protecting the pea shoots, and the screens are working well. Because the pieces are so large, I can cover two rows of peas with just one piece of screening.
