Country Lore: Newspaper Roll Garden Mulch

The paper left on the end of a newspaper roll like this one works very well as garden mulch.

I happened upon a great source for newspaper to use as garden mulch when preparing my no-dig garden beds this spring.

Our local printer offered me the ends of newspaper rolls left over from the printing process. I didn’t have to worry about colored ink because there was no ink on the paper, and rolling it across the grass was a cinch! Best of all, it was free.
