I have a simple tip that really works for us to keep deer out of our garden, which is about 30 by 45 feet. I string 20-pound-test, monofilament fishing line around the garden. I string one line at 2 feet above the ground and the other at 4 feet. This keeps both the younger and older deer out of the garden. They can’t see the line, so they can’t jump over it, and if they try to walk into the garden, they touch the line and it spooks them (I think).
A couple of years ago, at the end of the season, we had some Swiss chard left in the garden. I decided to remove the fishing line for the season, but I didn’t harvest the Swiss chard quickly enough, and two hours after I had taken down the fishing line, the Swiss chard had been eaten to the ground.
