Get to know Robin Bedford of Possum Hollow Farm Soap.
What are you going to speak about at the MOTHER EARTH NEWS FAIR?
The basics of home made soap making.
What are you most looking forward to sharing with FAIR attendees?
The importance of using natural ingredients on the outside of our bodies as well as the inside. Also, we are firm believers that if you can read you can do anything!
Tell us about your background with your particular topic.
Long fascinated with simplifing life and being self sustaining, I started making soap as a way to introduce chemistry to son Adam while home schooling. Finding soap making to be therapeutic, a business was started. My husband Jim’s cabinetmaking skills were soon used to create custom molds for soap making. Derek and Jennifer joined the business in 2009 and introduced a vegan line of soaps utilizing coconut milk. I am a registered nurse, and am finishing up my masters degree in nursing. Derek has his BFA in photography and printmaking, is a certified massage therapist. Jennifer is trained as a pastry chef, and Jim now makes soap full time.*Why should fairgoers attend your presentation?
Our love of life and people shows through in all we do! Our presentation will cover basics from chemistry to safety.
How will you get to the FAIR, and how far do you have to travel?
We will be driving to the FAIR. We live in Lehigh County, Pennsylvania, which is about a 4-5 hour drive.
What are you most looking forward to at the FAIR?
Meeting people interested in sustainable living.
What advice do you have for attendees?
Absorb as much as you can! Take notes, get business cards and have fun!
If you were stranded on a deserted island and could have only one thing, what would you choose?
A fully stocked, sea-worthy vessel! If that is not possible, romantically, just my husband; scientifically, an endless supply of dog food; practically, my Leatherman tool.
Thanks, Robin. We’ll see you at the FAIR!
