Over the past few weeks, we’ve been blogging about Wood-Mizer‘s Personal Best contest winners. These impressive craftsmen have built homes, cabins, barns and more using their own ingenuity and Wood-Mizer tools. So far, we’ve met Donn Saindon, who designed and built a lovely cabin for his family using reclaimed wood, and Robert Craig, who constructed a barn in Oregon for less than $5,000.

This week’s featured Wood-Mizer Personal Best contest winner is Joe Bonn, who built a dream house for himself and his wife after 20 years of anticipation. A wavering economy put Bonn’s dream of a self-built house in jeopardy for years. He and his wife had bought a stretch of land, but money was too tight to build on it.

Bonn’s career as a logger came to an end, and he used the money he had earned by selling his log skidder to purchase a new Wood-Mizer LT25 portable sawmill. With that new sawmill, he started a business of cutting down beetle-infested trees, which helped him acquire enough lumber to construct his dream home.

Today, Bonn does custom sawing, milling and tree service work in Colorado, and he lives in the house he built with his own hands.
