You can find heritage breeds in multiple species of livestock.

Are you in the market for a rare breed of livestock? The nonprofit American Livestock Breeds Conservancy (ALBC) has launched a new online classified advertising service that allows users to locate and purchase rare breeds of cattle, poultry, and more, as well as products such as handspun yarn from heritage sheep or free-range turkey meat. The site is geared toward small farmers, conservationists and producers, or anyone interested in livestock biodiversity and sustainability.

Anyone can search the ads by keyword or category and respond to listings, but you must be an ALBC member to post a classified ad on the site. For an annual $30 fee, you can become a member of ALBC, which helps you connect with other producers through a directory of breeders and products; continue learning through access to a host of workshops, clinics and conferences; and stay informed through a twice-monthly newsletter containing information on ALBC activities, specific heritage breeds and more. The ALBC is committed to conserving rare breeds of livestock to aid agriculture through genetic conservation.

To check out the new classifieds and learn more about the organization, go to the ALBC website.
