Chop Wood With a Warm Axe

Keep your ax head warm and you'll be able to chop wood in cold weather without damaging it.

Alaskan reader Marti Bradley wrote to you that the colder the weather, the easier it is to split firewood. I agree, but with the following tool care suggestion: when the thermometer dips way below freezing outdoors, store your ax indoors. I learned the hard way: I went out to chop wood with a very cold ax, and I ended up with a severely chipped blade.
