Background and Personal History:
Even though Mike worked for many summers on a vegetable farm as a teenager and enjoyed the experience immensely, most of his professional career revolved around technology. He managed technical support call centers for internet service providers and software development companies. Most recently, he was an account executive for a marketing agency before he was able shed the corporate office for the longer hours, harder work, and increased freedom of his current entrepreneurial pursuits in small-scale agriculture.
In 2010, Mike took over the publishing responsibilities for the APPPA Grit, the bi-monthly pastured poultry publication of APPPA. In 2012, he assumed the role of Director, leading the organization’s mission as a nonprofit educational and networking organization dedicated to encouraging the production, processing, and marketing of poultry raised on pasture.
In 2011, Mike and wife Christie launched a mobile poultry processing service that supplies equipment and/or labor to small scale poultry farmers in north central Pennsylvania. From their farm, the Badger’s produce heritage pork, pasture-raised broilers, and pasture-raised turkeys for market. They maintain a family flock of hens and a couple beehives.

Other Fun Facts: Mike just finished his fourth technology-related book titled Scratch 2.0 Beginner’s Guide, a project-based how-to tutorial for Scratch, the graphical computer programming language for kids.
