Background and Personal History: Meg Hiesinger holds a B.A. in Cultural Anthropology from U.C. Berkeley, and a doctorate from the program in the History and Anthropology of Science and Technology (HASTS) at Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Her work and interests center on the healing power of handicraft, place-making, and regenerative design for landscapes and people.
With over 15 years developing environmental education in private and non-profit institutions, she has conducted ethnographic research in Vietnam, Latin America, and indigenous communities in the U.S.
Meg works with community leaders and students of all ages to create meaningful hands-on experiences in ecological and cultural sustainability and currently oversees Grow Your Own! and other educational programs at The Ecology Center.
Current Projects: Meg leads Grow Your Own!, The Ecology Center’s organic school gardens program that provides garden consulting, educator trainings, and curriculum development for K-12 schools throughout California. The program is currently active in 20 schools in Orange County and San Diego.
Other Fun Facts: Meg is a kite aficionado and makes her own handmade kites from scratch. She can often be found testing her kites at the beach on the weekends.
