Mary Beth Duda and Russell Mullin, Tiny Home Builders
Mary Beth Duda is a gardener, photographer, and barista living in Kansas. She was the president of the student farming club at her university, where she helped her peers connect with the outdoors, learn about sustainability, and advance composting and recycling programs on campus. When she’s not taking photos of her flowers and coffee, she loves to go on adventures. Some of her favorites have included an extended trip to Ireland, sailing around Florida, road-tripping through Mexico, horseback guiding in the Gila Wilderness, and backpacking in Olympic National Park. A few of her hopes for the future are to become a master gardener, build a successful photography business, and travel to anywhere that mountains can be climbed.
Mary Beth currently is enveloped in a tiny home building project with her partner, Russell. They’ve decided to share their unique perspectives individually, offering you the opportunity to get her perspective, his perspective, or join in on their shared journey.
Russell Mullin has braved flash floods while guiding in the Gila Mountains of New Mexico, navigated rapids in North Carolina, sailed through lightning storms in the Gulf, met incredible strangers as he hitchhiked halfway across America, and volunteered on organic farms in France. A personal challenge to eat completely within a 25-mile radius of his home for an entire month (and the difficulties that came with it) led him to serve on the Douglas County Food Policy Council. During his time on this council, he and the team were successful in making healthy, locally-grown food more accessible by creating and advocating policy changes that made it possible for county residents to transform their front lawns into gardens, raise small livestock and bees within the city limits, and sell produce from their home. He’s now serving as a board member for the Kansas Permaculture Institute.
Russell is also in the process of designing and building a tiny home on wheels with his significant other, Mary Beth. Follow his perspective, her perspective, or, for double the fun, join in on their shared journey.
