Background and Personal History: Lydia grew up in West Michigan where she attended Calvin College, graduating in 2015 with degrees in Environmental Studies and International Development. She has supplemented her formal education by working on a variety of organic farms, including spending a semester abroad in Thailand and WWOOFing in Hawaii for the winter of 2014.
Growing and/or raising just about anything gets her excited, and she is especially passionate about environmental justice and low-tech, sustainable ways to better run small-scale farms and homesteads.
Current Projects: Currently, Lydia is serving as an Americorps volunteer with her husband in West Virginia at the Big Laurel Learning Center. There, they live with two nuns and help to run a sustainable homestead mountain ridge retreat and ecology center that resides on a 500-acre land trust.
