Kristi Nebel, Music-Making Home Canner and Pickler
Name: Kristi Nebel
Occupation: Musician
Place of Residence: Tacoma, Washington
Background and Personal History: Kristi Nebel learned to perform during ten years on the road working in cocktail lounges, and more years on the road in more recent years performing songs in folk clubs, and at festivals. She is an accomplished instrumentalist having played many styles of music during her lifetime.
Kristi’s interest in harmony singing comes from her family background of barbershop singers. Her interest in canning comes from her mother-in-law who persuaded her to join her kitchen every fall for a ritual that gave her a link to generations preceding, with jars that withstood the test of many decades. And her interest in gardening came from the symbiotic chain embodied in the song “John Barleycorn.” Kristi and her husband enjoy playing in the dirt and the kitchen as well as playing music, with the result of a well-stocked larder.
Current Project: Home pickling
Other Fun Facts: The song Kristi recorded, “Swingin’ In Tuscon,” is nominated for Song of the Year with the Academy of Western Artists. She will also be awarded the Social Justice Award on January 18, 2015, at the Martin Luther King Redeeming the Prophetic Vision Event at Urban Grace Church in Tacoma.
