Jonny Price, Kiva Zip Senior Director
Jonny Price, Kiva Zip Senior Director
Name: Jonny Price
Occupation: Senior Director, Kiva Zip
Place of Residence: San Francisco, California
Background and Personal History: Jonny grew up in London, before “studying” history at King’s College, Cambridge, where he spent as much time as possible representing his college at 14 sports (although three of these were table football, pool and chess!). After beginning his career racking up billions of Starwood points and white-hot PowerPoint skills as a management consultant with Oliver Wyman, Jonny moved to San Francisco, married Ali (a southern belle from Nashville, Tennessee), and then promptly joined Kiva.org to help people, work few hours, and stay in San Francisco more. At least he checked the first box!
Current Projects: Jonny leads the Kiva Zip program at the international non-profit Kiva.org. Since 2005, Kiva has funded over a million entrepreneurs in 80 countries around the world with crowdfunded capital. Those $700 million of loans have been funded by over a million individual lenders, and are paying back with a 99 percent repayment rate. The Kiva Zip model was launched in 2011, and aims to connect Kiva’s community of lenders and borrowers more closely, by lending directly to the borrowers, and bypassing the microfinance institution intermediaries that Kiva’s conventional model partners with to administer the loans. For the small business owners, entrepreneurs, artisans and farmers they serve, Kiva Zip loans have no interest rate and no fees — and no catch!
