John Arbuckle, Modern Maine Pig Farmer
Occupation: Pig farmer
Place of Residence: Maine
Background: John grew up on a multi-generational family farm in Illinois. He took a 12-year hiatus to travel the world guiding whitewater rafting trips before returning to his roots as a family farmer in La Plata, Missouri. He and his wife later moved to Maine, where they continue to experiment with pastured pigs.
Current Projects: John expects to change the trajectory of modern pig farming by demonstrating that a thinly wooded pasture, when managed well, can sequester tons of carbon, support lots of family farmers, create the most nutritionally dense pork and nurture an army of coyotes, owls, frogs, worms, bobcats and happy children. Heck ya!
