Residence: Western North Carolina
Background: Caitlin grew up on a small horse farm in western North Carolina, but she moved all over the state with her husband for his job our first few years of marriage. After moving their meager container gardens from rental to rental, they knew that they wanted to settle down with a real garden and small farm someday. Now that Caitlin is back in her hometown, she has a small garden that feeds her family throughout the year and a flock of backyard chickens that treat them with fresh eggs (when they’re in the mood). Caitlin’s husband is an avid outdoorsman. He fishes, hunts, and traps to provide the family with fresh, lean meat all year long. Caitlin considers her greatest calling being a Mama. She has a six—year-old son, one-year-old daughter, and three angel babies.
Caitlin is all about healthy eating and loves creating meals from scratch with whatever she has growing in her garden or harvested from her husband’s hunts. Over the last few years, she has also learned how to preserve that homegrown goodness to last the family all winter long. Her natural “medicine cabinet” consists of essential oils and plant-based supplements that keep Caitlin and her family healthy by working with their bodies, and she collaborates with an entire community of like-minded folks to share knowledge and empower others to take control of their health. Together, they are slowly sculpting a homegrown, handmade, and natural life, complete with lots of trial and error.
Current Projects: Caitlin is working on preparing garden beds and seeds for planting, planning a new herb bed, controlled burning land to prepare for home building and food plots, and creating seasonal meals with items left in winter pantry.
