Background:Born in the UK in the early seventies, Atulya K. Bingham started out as a modern languages teacher in London. In truth, all she really wanted to do was write and travel. At 26, she moved to the south coast of Turkey where she has lived and worked ever since. She has also spent much time in India and Taiwan.
In 2011, Atulya finally left the teaching profession and moved into a tent in a Turkish field. She lived alone for eight months out in the wilds until one night a storm nearly washed her off the hill. At the end of 2011, she began to construct an earthbag house, which was something of a feat as she hadn’t even banged a nail in six months prior. She continues to live semi-off-grid, growing her own food, experimenting with natural building techniques, and writing.
Widespread travel, the wilderness and earthbag house building have provided Atulya with a rich source of story material. She has published two books: The prize-winning novel Ay?e’s Trail set on Turkey’s Lycian Way hiking trail and Mud Ball, the story of how she and a few others built her earthbag house. She is author of The Mud Home website,which offers reams of natural building information, a window into Atulya’s off-grid life, a free earthbag building PDF for download and much more.
Current Projects: Searching for a new space to create another off-grid Mud world. Completing my 4th book, Dirt Witch.
Other Fun Facts: Atulya loves trees, her freedom, wild animals, dogs, and a mug of decent ground coffee (preferably accompanied by a nice piece of cake). She has little patience for cooking, naysayers and concrete.
