Background and Personal History: Born in Vietnam, Ann came to the U.S. when she was 11 years old. She grew up in Orange County, California, and earned a bachelor’s degree in English at UC Davis and a master’s degree at California State University, Long Beach. After graduation, she became an editor of the neurosurgery journal at the University of Southern California, where she coordinated print production schedules, contributed articles, and managed digital content. At the same time, she also consulted for small businesses on website branding and content development.
After the journal changed leadership, she left the position and joined Stanley Black & Decker as an online marketing specialist, but she soon realized that she preferred working with a tight-knit team and contributing to a meaningful cause.
Ann joined the educational nonprofit, The Ecology Center in Spring 2014 as the Marketing/Communication Manager. She currently manages the marketing and PR teams, facilitates online content, creates and implements marketing campaigns, manages social media channels, markets events and workshops, and produces the The Ecology Center’s quarterly sustainability journal, Evolve. She also holds a certificate in permaculture design.
Current Projects: Ann is currently helping The Ecology Center to launch their new water conservation movement, The Water Effect, which aims to reduce Orange County’s water usage by half through small lifestyle changes. She is also working on a Community Table cookbook that documents the making of seasonal farm-to-table meals at The Ecology Center and explores local ingredients from both the farmers’ and the chefs’ points of view.
Other Fun Facts:Ann is a film photography aficionado and moonlights as a wedding and lifestyle photographer for her friends and select clients. After taking a two-day natural dyes workshop at The Ecology Center last summer, she developed a keen interest in natural dyes and is currently experimenting with extracting colors from foraged plants and vegetable waste from local farms.
